Roy W. Gann went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 14, 2013. He was born on Aug. 13, 1932, in Pandora, Texas, to John and Lucille Gann.

Roy proudly served his country as a sergeant in the Army in North Korea, in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir with the “F” Co. 2nd Battalion/7th Infantry Division. He received two purple hearts as a result of wounds received in action in Korea, Feb. 17, 1951, and June 6, 1951. A piece of shrapnel was removed from his lung 51 years later. He was employed and retired from the Railroad Commission of Texas after 33 years of service. Roy was a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and a lifetime member of the Chosin Reservoir. Roy enjoyed reading, attending sporting events, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Johnny Wayne Gann and Allen “Bobo” Gann. He is survived by his loving wife, Grace; three children, Carol Mutz and husband Lucky, Cheryl Anderson and husband Steve, and Roy Gann and wife Debbie; eight grandchildren, Mike, Steven, Eric, Stan, Dawn, Roy, Levi, and Jeremy; seven great-grandchildren, Xaelen, Jacob, Coy, Harper, Hayley-Grace, Ian, and Ava; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and loving friends.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 17, from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale.

A funeral service was held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Robert M. Palan officiating.
