Offer condolences


George Otto Dojahn, a longtime resident of San Antonio, Texas passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, at 8:42 p.m., in the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, at the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 7 days. George was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Lenz, the son of Herman and Annie Retzloff Dojahn.

After graduating from Karnes City High School, George worked as a terminal manager with Gulf Oil for many years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. George had a generous and loving heart and he was a faithful member of many community organizations, but one of his favorite volunteer opportunities was learning alongside both the young Scouts and adult leaders of Boy Scout Troop No. 90 in San Antonio. George was a longtime member of Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in San Antonio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Wendeline Meta Jandt Dojahn; his second wife, Marlene Jozsa Dojahn; his grandson, Clayton Dojahn; and his sisters, Clara Katzer and Eleanora Hackbarth.

George is survived by his children, Karen Helms and husband Larry of Garland, Dennis Dojahn of Jourdanton, Kenneth Dojahn and wife Amy of Ennis, and Steven Dojahn of Odessa; his grandchildren, Gary Helms, Chris Helms, Theresa Bryan, Barbara Dojahn, Andrew Dojahn, Morgan Neyland, and Malinda Dojahn; his great-grandchildren, Laynie Bryan, Jadyn Neyland, Rhyder Neyland, and Madalyn Helms; and his siblings, Milda Schulenburg of Choat, Melvin Dojahn and Wilma Kutz, both of Marion, and William Dojahn and wife Julie of Angleton.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 16, from 5-8 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by the Rev. Dawn Silvius.

Interment followed in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Poth.
