An AirLife helicopter lands off U.S. 87 near the intersection with C.R. 361 July 22 following a two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 12:17 p.m. north of La Vernia. According to Trooper Corey Holmes of the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol, the preliminary investigation has revealed that Kathleen Markgraf, 52, of La Vernia was making a left turn off U.S. 87. A northbound 2013 Ford F-250, driven by 37-year-old Keith Carroll Dill of Weatherford, swerved in an attempt to avoid Markgraf’s Camry, which caused the truck to roll over and strike the sedan in the rear. Dill was flown to University Hospital in San Antonio and was in the emergency room as of press time July 22. Markgraf and a 10-month-old girl, identified by Holmes as Lily Markgraf, sustained minor injuries and were transported via ambulance to the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, where they were treated and released. The crash remains under investigation.
