Jose Antonio “Tony” Garcia, a longtime resident of San Antonio, Texas, entered eternal rest Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at 8:09 a.m., in Butner, N.C., at the age of 49 years, 11 months, and 2 days. Tony was born Aug. 21, 1963, in San Antonio, the son of Juan R. and Ernestina DeHoyos Garcia.

After graduation from Harlandale High School in San Antonio, Tony worked as a contractor for many years. Tony married his high school sweetheart, Sara Ambriz, in San Antonio.

He was preceded in death by his father, Juan R. Garcia; his brother, Juan Jose Garcia; and his brother-in-law, Jessie D. Martinez Jr.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of more than 30 years, Sara Garcia of San Antonio; his children, Penny Jo Ambriz and Jose Antonio Ambriz, both of San Antonio, and Jose Antonio Garcia of Arkansas; his mother, Ernestina Garcia of San Antonio; his sisters, Isabel Garcia and Josephine Mendez and husband Fernando, all of San Antonio, Blanca Martinez of Floresville, and Annabel Garcia and husband Jesus of Live Oak; his brothers, Guadalupe Garcia and Juan Garcia, both of San Antonio; his granddaughter, Deja Ambriz of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Monday, July 29, at 5 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, officiated by the Rev. Frank Kurzaj. Interment followed in the Canada Verde Cemetery in Wilson County.
