The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office is seeking candidates for the position of an Administrative Assistant. Duties will include but not limited to: answering incoming calls and greeting visitors, prepare discovery for defense bar as required, providing administrative and clerical support to the ADAs and District Attorney, assist in general office work and perform related duties as follows: Operate a multi-line telephone switchboard, proficient use of software applications and computer equipment, scanning and compiling files for eDiscovery, filing and creating court files, generating reports as required. Applicants must have at least five (5) years of administrative assistant experience, strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) ability to multi-task, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Abel R. Ramirez Sr., a lifelong resident of Poth, Texas, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013, at 4:55 a.m., in his residence at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 20 days. Abel was born Jan. 6, 1932, in the Three Oaks Community in Wilson County, the son of Antonio and Celia Rodriguez Ramirez.

He was a lieutenant with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office for 23 years. Abel married Theresa Andrada on Jan. 1, 1953, in Poth. He enjoyed gardening and fishing, and his beautiful whistling was often heard as he worked. Abel was an active lifelong member of the Emmanuel Assembly of God Church in Poth, and was a faithful Poth Pirate fan, never missing a football game.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ernest Ramirez; his brothers, Gerardo Ramirez, Felipe Ramirez, Antonio Ramirez, and Osbaldo Ramirez; and two sisters, Bertha Antuna and Rosa Rivera.

Abel is survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Theresa Ramirez of Poth; his children, Abel Ramirez Jr. and wife Elvia and Rebecca Ann Sanchez and husband Orlando, all of Poth; his grandsons, Paul Anthony Ramirez and wife Chelsea of San Antonio, John Ernest Ramirez and fiancée Leslie Bragg of San Antonio, and Orly Sanchez of Poth; his great-grandsons, Blake Anthony and Maddox Neal Ramirez; and his sister, Lydia Reyes of Poth.

Visitation was held on Sunday, July 28, at 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the Emmanuel Assembly of God Church in Poth.

A funeral service was held on Monday at 3 p.m. Monday in the church, with Pastor James Collins officiating.

Interment followed in the Emmanuel Assembly of God Cemetery in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were Paul Ramirez, Orly Sanchez, Harry Ramirez, David Ramirez, Joe Andrada, and Bernie Ramirez.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were John Ramirez and Adam Montez.
