1964-2013

Daryl William Drees, 49, of Palestine, Texas, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, in Palestine after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 28, 1964, in Sinton to Ernest Drees and Doris Wilkerson.

Daryl had many hobbies, but the one thing he loved to do the most was fishing. Either with his family, friends, or his favorite dog, Trixie, no matter when or where, he always said, “Let’s go fish.” He was employed as a deli clerk at Brookeshires in Palestine. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Buffalo, Texas. The family wishes to thank Hospice of East Texas for their love, support, and care.

Daryl was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Wilkerson; stepfather Kenneth Wilkerson; his grandparents, Andrew and Mary (Stiba) Drees; and stepsister Jacqueline Marie Pawelek.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Lee Drees of Palestine; sons David Lee Drees and Jermey William Drees and wife Johne; daughter Shelby Dean Drees of Palestine; his parents, Ernest and Anzelma Drees of Falls City; brothers Larrell Drees and wife Kay of Palestine, Mike Drees and wife Regina of Wimberley, and Randy Drees and wife Christie of Arkansas; granddaughter Jo Leigh Drees; stepbrothers Donnie Wilkerson of Arkansas, and Alan Pawelek and Gary (Joyce) Pawelek, all of Falls City; sisters Susan Wilkerson Burk and husband James of Arkansas, Jeanette (Leo Jr.) Lyssy and Yvette (Thomas Jr.) Kowalik, all of Falls City, and Michelle (Leroy) Titzman of La Vernia; 10 nieces; three nephews; his uncle, Robert Drees of Karnes City; aunts Marjorie Pierce of Hobson and Sherry (Ken) Walker of Beeville; numerous cousins; and friends.

Visitation was held on Thursday, July 4, from 6-8 p.m. in the Rhodes Funeral Home in Karnes City.

A funeral service was held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dwayne Burrell officiating.

Interment followed in the Hobson Cemetery in Hobson.

Serving as pallbearers were David Drees, Jermey Drees, Chris Smith, Thomas Evans, Alan Pawelek, and Gary Pawelek.
