J.C. Schilhab, a lifelong resident of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2013, in North East Baptist Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 28 days. J.C. was born Jan. 27, 1934, in Gonzales County, the son of Herbert Frederick and Helen O. Brunkenhoefer Schilhab.
After his schooling in Floresville, he worked hard all his life as a carpenter and cabinet-maker. J.C. married his first wife, LaVerne Joy, who passed away before him, and his second wife, Rose Hill, who also preceded him in death. J.C. was a very peaceful, kind person that was always willing to help others, and who enjoyed boating, fishing, dancing to country-western music, and watching war movies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Virginia Postert Schilhab; his first and second wives, LaVerne Joy Schilhab and Rose Hill Schilhab; his two children, Henry and Geraldine Schilhab; his sister, Ruby Schilhab and her daughter; and his nephew, Michael Lofton.
J.C. is survived by his children, Alta L. Henry and husband John of Cibolo, Sherry L. Lovelady and husband Maurice of Dallas, Tina Arzola of San Antonio, and Jerry Schilhab of San Antonio; his grandchildren, Nic Henry, Laverne, and Amber Goll, Kayla Byrd, Megan and Laverne Lynn Joy, and Kenzie Schilhab; his great-grandchildren, Seth, Brooke, and Drew; his half-sisters, Bernice Mattocks of San Antonio and Joy Byers of Georgia; his half-brother, Thorban Sellers of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 31, at 1 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Gordon Lindley officiating.
