Offer condolences


Fred Epperson passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 56 years, 10 months, and 5 days. He was born Sept. 5, 1956, in San Antonio to Olga M. Alvarez and retired USAF serviceman John E. Epperson Sr.

He was a former resident of the Saspamco community and a resident of Houston for the past 33 years.

Fred was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Mary Mendoza; his uncle, Fred Mendoza Jr.; brother John E. Epperson Jr.; and a nephew, Joseph David Carrasco.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Houston; a daughter, Lorraine Ayala of Laredo; sisters Mary E. Carrasco and husband David of Saspamco and Olga Alvarez and husband Dr. Michael Gonzalez of San Diego, Calif.; brothers Dr. James A. M. Epperson and wife Dr. Minerva Epperson of Arlington and Jonas F. Alvarez and wife Sandy of Pflugerville; an aunt, Dr. Idalia C. Mendoza of Puerto Rico; cousins Idalita Mendoza and husband Eliseo of Puerto Rico and Mary Jo Bheda and husband Mukesh of Chicago, Ill.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

A rosary was recited on Friday, July 19, at 7 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Elmendorf, with the Rev. Andrew Kafara officiating.

Interment followed in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Elmendorf.

Serving as pallbearers were Jonas F. Alvarez, David Carrasco Jr., Raven B. Carrasco, James A. Cuellar, Frederick J. Epperson, Dr. James A. M. Epperson, John E. Epperson III, and Nicholas Epperson.

The family would like to thank everyone for their condolences, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
