Polished Edge: Brunner Band, Natalie Rose set to take the stage at LV cook-off
Be sure to save the date for the 12th annual La Vernia BBQ Cook-Off to be held on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9-10, in the La Vernia City Park on San Antonio Road in La Vernia.
Gates will open at 3 p.m. on Friday with a variety of fun activities to include a kids cook-off, a carnival, arts and crafts, a zipline, a jalapeño-eating contest, a performance by the South Texas Gunfighters, and more. The fun will continue on Saturday at 10 a.m.
The highlight of the cook-off is the IBCA-sanctioned barbecue cooking competition, where teams compete for the best barbecue chicken, beef, and ribs.
Live music will be provided by Ross Brunner and the “Ross Brunner Band” on Friday night and the San Antonio Music Awards Best Country Band 2012 winner, Natalie Rose and the “Natalie Rose Band,” on Saturday. Both performances will be from 8 p.m. to midnight.
At just 18 years of age, Seguin songstress Natalie Rose Capparelli has already been backstage at the legendary Grand Ole Opry and is making a name for herself in the world of country music.
Natalie, whose high-powered mature voice, with a rich full range, has been compared to that of Martina McBride. She is a fast rising star on the Nashville Country music scene, where she records her music. She’s opened for Roy Clark, Ray Price, Charley Pride, Ronnie Milsap, Clay Walker, and Kevin Fowler.
The “Natalie Rose Band” includes members John Butcher on lead guitar, Christopher Cortez playing rhythm guitar, Steven Gonzalez on the drums, Ray Burch strumming bass guitar, and of course, Natalie Rose on lead vocals.
Ross Brunner was born and raised in the small town of Hallettsville. While attending Hallettsville High School, he was a two-time all-state saxophonist and his passion for music began to grow. After learning to play guitar at age 17, he played and sang with several local bands.
After several years of being in different bands in the area and grinding it out at open mic nights, Ross’s confidence blossomed and a performer was born. As a 21-year-old college student, he started his project called the “Ross Brunner Band.”
The “Ross Brunner Band” has been together for three years and play and entertain many venues throughout Texas. Their repertoire covers musicians such as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Robert Earl Keen, Gary Allan, George Strait, and more.
Band members consist of bassist and harmony vocalist Blake Luther, lead guitar player Bryan Hibler, and drummer Nick Tozzo.
Admission to the 12th annual La Vernia BBQ Cook-Off will be charged at the gate. Free parking will be available.
