Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Jessie Retta Butler Jackson, a longtime resident of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at 9 p.m., in the Downtown Baptist Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 73 years, 6 months, and 9 days. Jessie was born Jan. 23, 1940, in Floresville, the daughter of Fred Butler and Violet Kuykendall Howard.

After graduation from Floresville High School, class of 1958, Jessie attended St. Philips College in San Antonio, and worked many years before retiring.

Jessie was preceded in death by her father, Fred Butler; her stepfather, Mack Howard; her brother, Edward Lawrence Butler; and her uncle, Walter Kuykendall.

She is survived by her loving mother, Violet Howard of San Antonio; her precious children, Jacqueline Renee Jackson of San Antonio, and Zachary Todd Jackson and fiancée Sylvia of San Antonio; her sister, Sherley Hill and husband Eddie of San Antonio; her aunts, Leatrice Williams of San Antonio and Theda Matthews of Floresville; her uncle, Chris Kuykendall of San Antonio; her great-aunt, Daisy Kuykendall of San Antonio; and her sister-in-law, Vernon Butler of San Antonio.

Visitation was held on Friday, Aug. 9, from 6-9 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral service was held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Hugh A. Jones.

Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery No. 2 in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Freddie Butler, Darryl Matthews, Horace Harris, Bradley Williams, Jody Alexander, and Khalil Rashed-Boone.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Roger Jackson, Jadrien Jackson, Jharte Johnson, James Johnson, Brandon Jones, and Odarias Jones.
