The Greater La Vernia Chamber of Commerce’s Aug. 7 meeting drew a record-breaking attendance. The speaker was Nannette Kilbey-Smith, editor of the Wilson County News and the La Vernia News, who spoke on how to promote businesses and events.

The association voted to host the 2014 La Vernia Wild West Hammerfest Bicycle Ride in September 2014, and discussed plans for a Dec. 13 Christmas event for this year.

Also discussed was an internship opportunity with the greater chamber for a coordinator of Keep La Vernia Beautiful; notice of the opportunity will be distributed to area colleges. The unpaid position also will be posted at

The chamber’s Spotlight Member of the Month was the La Vernia Lions Club.
