Offer condolences


Clemons B. Christa Sr., a longtime resident of Poth, Texas, entered eternal rest Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at 8:21 p.m. in the Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 1 day. Clemons was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Stockdale, the son of Philip and Josie Bird Christa.

Clemons was self-employed for many years before retiring. He married Agatha Mutz on June 3, 1941, in Falls City. Agatha, Clemons beloved wife of more than 68 years, preceded him in death on May 7, 2010. Clemons faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Clemons was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Agatha Mutz Christa; his son, Clemons B. Christa Jr.; his brother, Louis Christa and wife Josephine; his sister-in-law, Beatrice Leineweber and husband Bill; and his brothers-in-law, Jerry Lyssy, Nick Kolenda Sr., and Conrad Mutz and wife Martha.

He is survived by his children, Lucille Schneider and husband Raymond of China Grove, Phil Christa of San Antonio, Norma Mobley of Poth, and Louis Christa of Luling; his grandchildren, Kevin Schneider and wife Mona and Cheryl Moczygemba and husband Patrick, all of Floresville, Darryl Schneider and wife Sheri and Jason Christa, all of San Antonio, Carl Janysek of Port Aransas, Jerry Janysek of Poth, and Derek Christa, who is currently serving overseas with the U.S. Army; his great-grandchildren, Kevin Ray Schneider Jr., Victoria Schneider, Cody Opiela, Matthew Moczygemba, Ethan Schneider, Brett Schneider, and Colton Schneider; his sister, Ella Bess Kolenda of Floresville; and his sister-in-law, Theresa Lyssy of Fairview.

Visitation was held on Friday, Aug. 16, at 5 p.m., with a recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth, officiated by the Rev. Mirek.

Interment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Cemetery in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were Jason Christa, Carl Janysek, Kevin Ray Schneider Jr., Ethan Schneider, Brett Schneider, and Mark Leineweber.
