Leo J. Moczygemba Sr.
Leo J. Moczygemba Sr. passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013. He was born July 7,1924, to Stanik and Albina (Labus) Moczygemba in Hobson, Texas. He was one of 11 children.
Leo attended Hobson Parochial School and later worked on the family farm. On Nov. 14, 1944, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a rifleman and squad leader until his discharge in 1946. He worked at Susquehanna as a loader operator and later at Chevron as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1989. Leo met the love of his life, Irene Olinick, in Hobson and they were married on Jan. 12, 1949, in Cestohowa. They were blessed with 11 children, 30 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Peter, Henry, Eddie, Walter, Stanley, Jerome, and Victor; sisters Barbara Korzekwa and Regina Richter; a daughter, Doris Haby; grandsons Warren Moczygemba and Leo John Moczygemba III; and a granddaughter, Katie Lynn Moczygemba.
Leo is survived by his wife of 64 years, Irene; his sons, Dalton Moczygemba and wife Georgia, Norman Moczygemba and wife Jane, Allan Moczygemba and wife Jackie, Richard Moczygemba and wife Carolyn, Michael Moczygemba and wife Karla, and Leo Moczygemba Jr. and wife Jeanette; his daughters, Janet Scheffler and husband Marvin, Sally Wiatrek and husband Willa, Sharon Zunker and husband Albert Jr., and Mary Jane Janysek and husband Vincent Jr.; a son-in-law, Lynn Haby; and a sister, Lucy Felux.
Visitation was held on Friday, Aug. 16, at 4 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Panna Maria.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the church.
Interment followed in the Panna Maria Cemetery in Panna Maria.
Serving as pallbearers were his sons, Dalton, Norman, Allan, Richard, Michael, and Leo Jr.
