Trustees approve code of conduct
LA VERNIA -- A slight change in the wording of the student code of conduct has been approved by the La Vernia Independent School District (ISD) board of trustees, according to Superintendent Tom Harvey after the meeting.
The Aug. 14 workshop and meeting agenda were brief, addressing team building and goal setting, as well as personnel issues and the student code of conduct.
School board President Cody Miller confirmed the slight wording change was made in the student code of conduct regarding harassment, to define a “young child” as a youth under 14 years of age. Robert Russo of Walsh Anderson, the school district’s attorney, provided the definition, Harvey said.
Miller said the board members and superintendent engaged in a productive discussion in open meeting regarding expectations and the roles of the board, to “find common ground and get on the same page.” This will help the trustees provide clear direction for Harvey to enable the district to move forward.
“We worked to agree on priorities,” Miller said after the meeting. “Where do we want to see the district go? What are our goals as a district?”
The trustees will meet again Tuesday, Aug. 27. Among the agenda items will be approval of the district’s budget and tax rate for the coming fiscal year, Miller said.
