1947-2013

Sandra “Sandy” Lee Marshall, affectionately known as “SaSa” by her family, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at the age of 66, after a brave and courageous battle with COPD. Sandy was born on Aug. 1, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas, to Calvin and Evelyn Hartsfield.

Sandy enjoyed playing softball and cheerleading while attending Sam Houston High School. She graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1965, and went on to marry Don E. Marshall in 1966. Throughout her life, Sandy enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing with her family and friends in South Texas, Colorado, and the African plains. Sandy, along with her husband, Don, raised world champion Appaloosa horses from the late 1960s through the ’80s. She was a life member of the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo, member of the Appaloosa Horse Club, and a member of the Go Rodeo Committee. It was easy to see that Sandy loved and cared for animals. She had many dearly loved pets that she cared for, her favorite of them being her Chihuahua “Pixie” and her African Gray parrot named “Jr.” Sandy’s life was filled with love and joy for her husband and family. We will all miss her very much and will hold her close to our hearts forever, said her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Stacey Lee Marshall; and father-in-law Don M. Marshall.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Don E. Marshall Sr.; her son, Donnie Marshall Jr.; brother Bobby Hartsfield; granddaughters Haily Lee Marshall and fiancé Nathan Biela and Melanie Marshall; great-granddaughter June Biela; mother-in-law Bertie Marshall; aunt Gladys Hartsfield; cousins Wesley Hartsfield and Sharon Hassell and family; sister-in-law Jennifer Kopeck and husband Robert; nieces and nephews Brianna Ross and family, Deana Kopeck and fiancé Keith Zunker, Daryl Kopeck and family, and Damon Kopeck and family; and many loving family and friends.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 6-9 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel, with Pastor Jerry Cosper to officiate.

Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southeast Baptist Church, 2414 S. W.W. White Road, San Antonio, TX 78222.
