Patsy Ritchey trial set for November
Jury selection ahead of the trial of former Greater La Vernia Chamber of Commerce Treasurer Patsy Lynne Ritchey, 54, is set for Nov. 12. This date was set by 218th District Court Judge Stella Saxon during Ritchey’s Aug. 27 arraignment in Wilson County District Court.
Ritchey is charged with theft of property worth more than $20,000 but less than $100,000, misapplication of fiduciary property, and theft of property worth more than $1,500 but less than $20,000, all related to her tenure as the treasurer of the organization. She was indicted July 12.
Both sides are awaiting discovery in the case, according to court records. Ritchey is due to return to court for a docket call Oct. 29. She potentially faces additional charges stemming from allegations of insurance fraud, related to the now-closed Patsy Ritchey Insurance Agency on U.S. 87. An investigation is ongoing.
Also among the defendants present in court Aug. 27 for a pretrial hearing was real estate agent Ruth Elizabeth Snider Escalante, 52. Court records indicate she is set to return to court for a docket call Sept. 25, with jury selection ahead of her trial set for Oct. 7.
Escalante -- also known as Liz Snider -- is charged with two counts of theft of more than $1,500 but less than $20,000. A third count alleges that she perpetrated this same crime against an elderly victim. This was after landlords of properties she managed reported never receiving rent money Escalante collected from their tenants.
