Wilson County sheriff’s deputies and those working within the Wilson County Jail each will receive a $3,000 salary increase under the budget adopted Aug. 26 by the Wilson County Commissioners Court. Most of the county’s employees and elected officials were approved for a 5-percent across-the-board pay raise, with a few clerical workers being approved for larger increases.

The Wilson County News, through an open records request to Wilson County Treasurer Jan Hartl, received a list of the county’s personnel as of July 19. The list appears with this article at wilsoncountynews.com (see PDF download above) and includes the names, positions, hire dates, and salaries for each of the county’s approximately 160 workers.

The longest-serving county employee also is an elected official. Wilson County Tax Assessor-Collector Anna Gonzales’ first day of county employment was June 1, 1969, according to Hartl’s report. Prior to her 5-percent salary increase, she was paid an annual wage of $50,280. In addition, she -- like all other elected officials --receives a reimbursement for business use of a personal cellular telephone. For Gonzales, that reimbursement totals $600 per year.

Elected officials, like other county employees, are paid a $100-per-year supplement for every year of employment. For Gonzales, that supplement totals $4,400 this year. Therefore, with the 5-percent raise, she will gross $57,794.

However, Gonzales is not the highest-paid worker on the county’s payroll. That distinction belongs to County Attorney Daynah Fallwell. Her fiscal year 2013 salary was $56,100. She also receives a $20,900 supplement from the state, and will receive a $2,805 salary increase from the county, in addition to her $1,200-per-year cellular telephone reimbursement and a $75 county supplement. Therefore, her pay before taxes will total $81,080 during the coming fiscal year.

Other elected officials for 2014 include:

•All four precinct commissioners, who each will receive a base salary of $58,905

•All four precinct constables, who each will receive a base salary of $22,050

•Justices of the peace for precincts 1 and 4, who also serve as magistrate judges, each will receive a base salary of $46,078. Judges in precincts 2 and 3 each will receive $42,436.80.

•Sheriff Joe D. Tackitt Jr., who will receive a base salary of $58,917.60.

•Wilson County Judge Marvin Quinney will receive a total of $78,905, inclusive of a $1,400 county supplement, $1,200 telephone reimbursement, $15,000 state supplement, $2,400 juvenile justice supplement, and a $58,905 base salary.

Most elected officials fare better than most county residents, according to a report from the U.S. Census Bureau for the years 2007-11. The median earnings for workers residing in Wilson County were estimated at $32,129.

The bureau’s report did not include information related to health-insurance characteristics. However, each worker employed by the county receives individual health-insurance coverage. For the 2013 fiscal year, the county paid premiums of $757 per month, per employee. This totals slightly less than $1.5 million.

Something else to say.......Since you cannot compare your salary to a deputy because the jobs are totally different, wouldn'the same logic apply to county clerical personnel ?

"Something else to say" I was not comparing the law enforcement personnel to military personnel. I was referring to everyone else that got a 5% raise.

Noetall the fact you retired 42 years ago is not an excuse for your ignorance of current events. It's just another example of how you run your obnoxious big mouth before getting the facts.
