The city of Floresville has a new city manager, following a unanimous decision of council members present for a Sept. 5 special meeting.

Henrietta Turner, MBA, will join the city Tuesday, Oct. 1, according to councilmen John W. Guerrero and Jim Miller after the meeting. She takes the helm following the resignation last month of former City Manager Andy Joslin.

Turner’s city management experience dates from 1995 and includes stints as the village manager for Sauk Village, Ill., and as city manager for Country Club Hills, Ill.

“It’s taking a giant step forward for the city, going out to find competent, qualified personnel,” Miller said.

Guerrero agreed, adding, “I think she’s well-qualified. This is going to take the city in new directions with new ideas and a fresh perspective.”

Read more about this in the Sept. 11 print edition.

Give the girl a chance. She probably has more education -- and experience -- than all of her predecessors combined. Plus, she isn't related to anyone, so the citizens might get a fair shake for a change.

I would say you're wrong about a for-profit degree. I know several students that have failed out of these programs and these programs are held to the same accreditation standards as non-profit universities. I'm not standing ... More ›

Graduate degree is from a "for profit" educational institution. IE...if you pay, you graduate. This is crazy. I guess everyone deserves a second chance but let's make sure council keeps close reigns on spending.

What is the status of this candidate now? Is she still going to be hired? Or will she still be hired with lots of restrictions? For example, no business or working lunches, personal trips out of town, no hotel/motel overnights, ... More ›

She clearly has demonstrated a lack of integrity in the past. She was FIRED as a result of her actions in her capacity as a city manager. Does that mean she will do it again? No it doesn't. People do make mistakes and under ... More ›

Integrity is a very loosely used word on this blog. Do all of us that hide behind a handle name have integrity?? There are all different types of integrity. You can have intellectual integrity, personal integrity. Just because ... More ›

One thing I have found is just because people make mistakes, doesn't mean they cannot come back from them. She seems qualified, she has the experience. I don't think Mr. Miller and Rodriguez would allow her to get away ... More ›
