Roy L. Spear, 72, of Sutherland Springs passed away on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013. He was born on July 12, 1941, in Harlingen, Texas, to Bennett and Opal (Runyon) Spear.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Dewey Steffens; and sister Doris Kimsey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Jennabeth (Taylor) Spear; sons Troy Spear and wife Deborah and Travis Spear and wife Lisa; grandchildren Taylor Spear, Devin Otten, Jocelyn Spear, and Ty Spear; sister Dorothy Sekula; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. in the La Vernia United Methodist Church in La Vernia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the La Vernia United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 155, La Vernia, TX 78121, or to a charity of one’s choice.
