WCRSP meets to discuss focus for 2013-14
Wilson County Retired School Personnel officers and committee chairs (from left) Bill Gleeson, Bonna Reed, Bonnie Rice, Lydia Martinez, Priscilla Kincaid, Melissa Ramos, Claryce Holcombe, Jesse Ramos, and Joe Holcombe meet to discuss the 2013-14 year.
Wilson County Retired School Personnel met Sept. 3 in the Floresville ISD Administration Building. WCRSP President Bill Gleeson welcomed members, visitors, and guests. After the invocation and pledges to the flags, Interim Superintendent Sherri Bays introduced herself and Central Office personnel.
Bill Gleeson announced that the focus for 2013-14 is public relations. He wants the community to recognize the many contributions made by retired educators. Carol Richardson, Volunteer Chair, and Bonnie Rice, Public Relations Chair, will coordinate this effort.
Lydia Martinez reported that the organization received a check for $670 from Texas Retired Teachers Association for increasing membership by 67 over the previous year.
Clint Shanks and Nancy Garland of AMBA joined Jesse Ramos in presenting information about member benefits. TRTA and WCRSP members are fortunate to have fantastic perks available through the efforts of TRTA. Garland led a discussion on the good, the bad, and the frightening aspects of growing older. The bottom line is that we all should aim for aging gracefully in our own homes.
Membership Chair Priscilla Kincaid reminded members of the “Each One Bring One” initiative that rewards recruitment of new members. If you sign a new member to WCRSP, your name will be entered in a drawing for $100 at the state convention.
Charlie Rice reminded everyone that those who retired before 2004 will receive a slight increase in their annuities.
Kincaid and Gleeson discussed the District 20 Presidents Meeting in Devine and plans for the Fall Conference on Oct. 24.
The District 20 Conference will be June 5, 2014, in the Floresville Event Center.
