“There cannot be one law for citizens and a different interpretation for politicians”

WASHINGTON- The founder of Restore America’s Voice, a strong critic of ObamaCare, said today that his organization was closing in on three million petitions to repeal, defund or delay the Affordable Care Act.

“We have already delivered 1.6 million petitions for full repeal. We will raise and deliver even more now that Americans are learning how Barack Obama bribed Congress by illegally exempting them and their staff from the full cost of and participation in ObamaCare”, said Ken Hoagland, chairman of the advocacy group. “It is a blatantly illegal bribe that should embarrass both this Administration and Members of Congress who have quietly accepted it.”

“This is supposed to be a nation of laws and the law very clearly requires Congress to participate. The decision to let Members of Congress declare which staff are exempt and to subsidize Obamacare premiums with tax free subsidies is a violation of the Rule of Law and un-American to its core. There cannot be one law for citizens and a different interpretation for politicians.” said Hoagland.

“We do not have a ruling class in the United States, by deliberate design” said Hoagland. “Monarchs may exempt favored courtiers from the law but an American President cannot.”

Hoagland's group sought petition signers in TV ads critical of the Affordable Care Act over the past two years. In several highly visible events at the Capitol since enactment he has delivered boxes of petition names to House and Senate leaders.

“Senate Democrats have ignored citizens petitioning for a redress of grievances as studiously as they have ignored every House bill seeking repeal,” said Hoagland. “Now they and other Members from both parties are ignoring an unambiguous requirement of the law itself,” said Hoagland.

“They are apparently shaken that the unintended consequence of higher costs on politicians and their staff will hurt them,” said Hoagland. “But in the face of the very same costs facing businesses and citizens, they alone feel justified in receiving an exemption by Presidential fiat. That is unacceptable.”

Hoagland said that this latest “implementation dysfunction” makes clear that the law is “nowhere near ready” and should, at least, be delayed for a year. “Big business got a one-year break by fiat, income certification is not ready, identity theft is a real concern and even unions who once supported the law are warning of dire consequences.”

“What does it take for this President and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to admit the obvious truth? The law is deeply flawed and barreling ahead will only cause more damage.” Hoagland said.
