Carson Lamar Foster, 97, of Pleasanton, Texas, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, in Pleasanton. Lamar was born in Atascosa County near Benton City on Feb. 8, 1916, to Otis Franklin and Frances White Foster.

In 1929, the family moved to the Verdi community where he farmed and ranched his entire life. Lamar graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1934 where he was valedictorian of his graduating class. In 1939, he married Elizabeth Ivine Billingsley, with whom he spent 68 years, until her death in 2007. Lamar and Elizabeth had four children, Annette, Sue, Carson, and Kevin. Lamar enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his father-in-law, Ivin Billingsley. Later in life he enjoyed playing golf, watching baseball, and spending time with his grandchildren on the farm.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ivine Foster; daughters Sue Dietrich and Annette Gipson; sons-in-law Jerry Dietrich and Robert Gipson; sister Blanche Witten; brother Carl Clayton Foster; and grandson Paul Gipson.

Lamar is survived by his sons, Carson Leon Foster of Pleasanton and Kevin Foster and wife Charlotte of Floresville; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 2-8 p.m. in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Pleasanton.

A funeral service was held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Interment followed in the Pleasanton City Cemetery in Pleasanton.
