Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1940-2013

John Allen “Johnny” Hays passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, in San Marcos, Texas, at the age of 72 years, 8 months, and 19 days. He was born Dec. 21, 1940, in San Antonio to Jack Mundine and Nadone Allen Hays.

A former resident of San Antonio and Galveston, Johnny was a resident of Sutherland Springs for 24 years. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Union in Galveston County, a former member of the First Baptist Church of La Marque, a member of Northview Baptist Church in Floresville, and former member of PWP.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Ann Thigpen Hays in January of 2013; his parents; and his sister, Susan Hays.

Johnny is survived by his children, Kim Phillips and husband Mark of Texarkana, Susan Belanger and husband Bob of New Braunfels, and Lance Clem and wife Jennifer of Texas City; his brother, Bill Hays and wife Mary of Boerne; grandchildren Zach Gilliam, Len Belanger, Lane Belanger, Logan Belanger, Kristen Clem, and Sarah Clem; great-granddaughter Emily Charter; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 6-8 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville.

A funeral service was held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Chuck Jennings officiating.

Interment followed in the Sutherland Springs Cemetery in Sutherland Springs.

Serving as pallbearers were Lance Clem, Bob Belanger, Zach Gilliam, Troy Gilliam, Mark Phillips, Len Belanger, and John Thomas Hays.
