Track project off to a running start

STOCKDALE -- After a few stumbles from the starting blocks, the Stockdale Independent School District (ISD) board of trustees is continuing its efforts to construct a track complex.
The complex, the second project in the district’s 2010 long-term plan, is estimated to cost approximately $600,000. During its May 13 board meeting, the board assigned $500,000 for this project, as well as approving the issuance of $300,000 in interest-bearing time warrants. The loan would be paid back within five years.
Delays occurred when the district went out for bids to relocate the stadium bleachers, but no bids were submitted. The second round for bid submission closed Sept. 13.
Stockdale ISD Super-intendent Paul Darilek said after the Sept. 9 school board meeting that he gave a preliminary track overview from Hellas Sports Construction of Austin. He emphasized nothing has been finalized yet, and the information was part of his “superintendent’s report.”
Hellas specializes in sports construction projects for high school, college, and professional teams. The Alamodome is one such example.
Darilek anticipates the project will begin in mid-November, after all Stockdale Brahma football home games are complete.
