The National Weather Service has advised a potential for locally heavy rains over the next 36-48 hours, as of Sept. 19.
The area of concern is all of South Central Texas, especially along the Rio Grande and the western Hill Country.
Tropical downpours with rain rates higher than 2 inches per hour can occur. Expect rain totals over the next 48 hours averaging up to 1 inch, with isolated rain totals more than 4 inches. An increase of the river level on the Rio Grande is likely. Urban and small stream flooding are likely. Isolated flash flooding is a threat.
Friday (Sept. 20) night football games will be impacted. A few lightning strikes are possible and need to be monitored.
The weather service anticipates that the locally heavy rain threat will continue all day Thursday near the Rio Grande and the far western areas of South Central Texas. The heavy rainfall threat will peak Friday afternoon through Friday night across all of South Central Texas.
