SAN ANTONIO -- The Floresville High School junior varsity Tiger football team played the Lanier Voks last Thursday night in San Antonio, and made it look easy.

The Tigers started out fast with a quick drive and score on a pass from Dalton Schroller to Juan “Juanny Football” Medina. The offensive line of Travis Quillin, Ryan “Big Rod” Rodriguez, Tyler Leyva, Colby Bauer, Josh Roberts, and Abundio Banda dominated the line of scrimmage all night. The rushing attack was led by Alex “The Man” Mermea who had some big runs and scored once for the Tigers. Adding to the scoring for Floresville, offensively, were Schroller on a quarterback keeper, “Juanny Football” on a run, and Carlos Cruz on another great run. Matthew Trevino caught a 2-point conversion pass from Schroller, and Ray “Sweet Baby Ray” Contreras added three extra-point kicks.

Defensively, the Tigers were led by some great play from Brock Dugi, Aaron Rodriguez, Demrick Rivas, Andy Joslin, Jesse Pacheco, Jacob Sendejo, Thomas Garcia, and Banda. The Tigers also got some key tackles from Luis Molina. The big defensive play of the night came as Rafael “All I do is score Touchdowns” Arocha intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown for the Tigers. Arocha also had a fumble recovery that Joslin caused.

The final score was 41-14, making the junior varsity team 3-0 on the season, with district play set to begin next week against McCollum. Congratulations, junior varsity.
