About politics and other things

If it were not for a complicit media, many of the problems with the Affordable Care Act (popularly known as ObamaCare) would have been revealed long ago. Instead, much of the media (especially MSNBC) are little more than extensions of the Obama-Reid-Pelosi ongoing political campaign.

With all the debate currently going on about Obamacare and shutting down the government, no one wants to recognize the elephant in the room. Someone has to pay.

The government has no money except what it takes from us hard-working taxpayers. Providing health insurance to all, regardless of their medical condition and source of income, is an expensive proposition.

There is so much wrong with Obamacare, especially its complexity, that it’s difficult to know where to begin. For one thing, all the focus on the Affordable Care Act assumes that if one has insurance, they will automatically receive quality health care. Just because one has a health-insurance policy, it does not automatically follow that they will receive the quality of health care that they may be accustomed to or that they would like to be able to receive.

What we have been hearing about through the media and from Obama-Reid-Pelosi is how “everyone” can now get insurance, even those with prior illnesses and inadequate income; they cannot be turned down. And insurance is being promised at a “better rate” and with “more options” than their existing policies.

How is that possible? This is a question that is not being asked and is not being addressed.

Many have referred to the existing social programs, Medicare and Social Security, but these programs were initiated by imposing Medicare and Social Security taxes on working individuals. No such provision exists to help pay for ObamaCare. There are fines and taxes imposed on certain items such as medical devices that will bring in some of the revenue, but it’s far from enough to sustain such a program.

Therefore, it is only reasonable to presume that people who are employed (taxpayers) will be paying the bill for those who are not able to pay for their own insurance without “government” (taxpayer) subsidies. As long as someone else is paying the bill, it’s a good program for those who need the assistance.

America’s leaders in Congress now find themselves at loggerheads over this issue. It’s being reported that, because of the bill that the Republicans have passed, we are facing a government shutdown.

What should be reported is that, because President Obama and Harry Reid refuse to negotiate or even communicate with the House of Representatives, we are facing a government shutdown. A government shutdown is not the issue.

The refusal of Obama to give elected representatives at least the respect that he is giving to the president of Iran shows the attitude in Washington.

Sure. Everyone wants good health. Everyone wants health insurance in order not to have to pay for medical care and the sometimes-exorbitant medical treatments that can arise with serious illness. But if millions of Americans will pay less than $100 per month for their health insurance, they will either qualify for Medicaid, which is a form of insurance paid for by other taxpayers, or they will qualify for government subsidies. The government only has what it takes from other taxpayers, so when they are bragging about all these people qualifying for “subsidies,” all that really means is that someone else will be paying for their insurance.

I ask again, when will we run out of the “someone elses” to be paying? Margaret Thatcher said: “Eventually, Socialists run out of other people’s money [to spend].”
