Area growth spawns new local businesses
FLORESVILLE -- The business community continues to grow here.
In the former Walmart building near Tractor Supply, plans are afoot for even more businesses to cater to local consumers.
A developer plans to convert the former large space into four suites. Proposed retailers include Dollar Tree, an expanded Anytime Fitness, Cato, and Cheer Gym, according to information presented during a July 25 meeting of the Floresville City Council by former City Manager Andy Joslin. A new Holiday Inn Express located next to H-E-B on U.S. 181 was set to open this week.
In the past few months, the city also welcomed an alcoholic beverage store, along with Hibbett Sports and Rue 21, in the new Walmart Supercenter retail development.
Continued growth in the area, in part spurred by the oil and gas exploration in the Eagle Ford shale, continues to bring new faces and businesses to area communities.
La Vernia, in recent months, welcomed a Golden Chick franchise. Developers also broke ground at the city’s La Vernia Crossing retail site, across U.S. 87 from the H-E-B, which continues to thrive.
Watch for more on these and other businesses in coming issues of this newspaper.
