Polished Edge: Peanut Festival entertainers locked and loaded
Don’t be too quick to fold up those lawn chairs after the parades at the 69th annual Floresville Peanut Festival! The lineup of musical entertainment should keep you glued to your seat, or better yet, on your feet with a dance partner!
On Friday, Oct. 11, following the Kiddie Parade, the night will heat up with sounds from “LOBO IV” and David Farias “Y Los Hermanos Farias” belting out some of your Tejano favorites.
With all the excitement of the Grand Parade on Saturday, entertainers “The Pear Ratz,” Bart Crow, and “Playin’ to Win” will have their work cut out for them, but sure won’t leave the crowd just standing around.
“Playin’ to Win,” a Floresville Opry favorite, will take the stage immediately following the parade with some classic country favorites.
“The Pear Ratz” members Bob Strause, Rodd Daws, Joe Talbert, and Dave McConnell started up as a thrash-metal band in George West, which achieved a bit of success. Having started families, the members decided to take the ’90s off to raise their kids. Well, it wasn’t long before these guys felt the itch again, that need to write and perform.
Out of the brush and prickly pear (hence the name) of Live Oak County, “The Pear Ratz” was born, with core members Bob Strause on rhythm and vocals, and Rodd Daws on bass, along with San Antonio’s “Gentleman” Joe Talbert on the lead guitar, and John Starek on drums.
“The Pear Ratz’s” 2006 debut album, “Rat Now,” set the tone for what would come to be called “Ratz Rock,” a raw amalgam of country, rock, and honky-tonk.
The fun-filled evening will end with Bart Crow, whose newest single, “Loving You’s A Crime,” is sure to bring country music lovers to their feet.
Come make some new memories at the Peanut Festival in downtown Floresville Oct. 8-12, with festival food, a carnival, great music, arts and crafts, and more.
