AUSTIN -- The reward for Charles Leon Carr, 56, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender, has increased to up to $13,000 for information leading to his capture if the tip comes in during the month of October. In 1975, he was sentenced to 99 years in prison for the violent sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in Abilene. He was released from prison in 2008 and disappeared in 2009. All tips are guaranteed to be anonymous.
Carr’s last known residence was in Austin, and he has ties to El Paso. He could be working in air conditioning repair, refrigerator repair, machine operation, data entry or as a laborer. His criminal history includes sexual assault of a child, transportation of unlawful aliens and theft. He is wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service for probation violation and by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for parole violation.
Carr is 6 feet tall and weighs approximately 190 pounds. His tattoos include a skull on his outside upper right arm and skull/dagger/roses on his outside upper left arm. He also has an operation scar on the inside of his right knee and a cut scar inside his right hand. For more information, view his wanted bulletin at: http://www.dps.texas.gov/Texas10MostWanted/SexOffenderDetails.aspx?id=172.
One offender from the Texas 10 Most Wanted Program is featured each month in hopes the higher reward money from the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division will generate additional tips. The higher reward amount will only be paid if the tip comes in the same month the fugitive is featured. All calls, texts, emails and Facebook tip messages are anonymous.
Anyone with information can provide anonymous tips in four different ways:
•Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
•Text the letters DPS -- followed by your tip -- to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.
•Submit a web tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about, and then clicking on the link under their picture.
•Submit a Facebook tip at http://www.facebook.com/texas10mostwanted by clicking the “SUBMIT A TIP” link (under the “About” section).
The following link, http://bit.ly/VqydsJ, explains the steps on how to submit a tip regarding a Texas 10 Most Wanted fugitive or sex offender and/or how to receive a reward once the fugitive is captured.
Texas Crime Stoppers, which is funded by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division, offers cash rewards to any person who provides information that leads to the arrest of one of the Texas 10 Most Wanted fugitives or sex offenders ( http://www.dps.texas.gov/texas10mostwanted/).
Do not attempt to apprehend these fugitives; they are considered armed and dangerous.
