Proceeds benefit Poth’s Project Graduation

FLORESVILLE -- Toby George claimed the title of top roper after the dust settled from the Poth Senior Class of 2014’s Labor Day Team Ropin’ event. The fund-raiser was held Sept. 1 in the Floresville River Park roping arena, with proceeds benefiting Project Graduation.

George placed first in the No. 10 while teamed with Miguel Alaniz. The duo’s time was 23.03 on three runs. George returned to the winner’s circle in first place in the No. 12, this time with David Warnasch. The duo timed 24.46 on two. For his efforts, George earned belt buckles, as well as an X-tra fancy saddle for being the high-point roper of the day.

He wasn’t alone in collecting multiple buckles.

Matt Garza earned three, one for placing second in the No. 10 roping while teamed with Miguel Alaniz. He clinched another set in the No. 12, after placing second with David Warnasch and third with Joseph Martinez.

Two ropers -- Miguel Alaniz and David Warnasch -- earned belt buckles for placing first and second in the No. 10 and No. 12 roping, respectively.

Abby Slagle, a Poth FFA member who competes on the Texas High School and Texas Youth Rodeo circuits, came up a double winner, as well. She placed third in the No. 7 while teamed with Gabe Korzekwa, and third in the No. 8 when teamed with Mike Chapa.

Leaders in the No. 7 roping were Travis Putman and Claud Lee, who timed 23.85 on two.
