HOBSON -- The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol continues its investigation into a head-on crash south of here at approximately 7:30 a.m. Oct. 2 that claimed the lives of two drivers. DPS spokesman Anthony Flores identified the victims as 23-year-old Justin Griffith of San Antonio and 45-year-old Byron Speight of Orange.

Flores said the preliminary investigation has revealed that Griffith was traveling southbound on U.S. 181 near the intersection of C.R. 222 when his 1996 Lexus sedan crossed the centerline into the northbound lanes, where it collided head-on with Speight’s 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Karnes County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Caroline Korzekwa pronounced both drivers dead at the scene.
