The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office, which includes Frio, La Salle, Atascosa, Karnes and Wilson Counties, is accepting resumes for an Assistant District Attorney position. The selected candidate will manage a specialized caseload with a focus on criminal enterprise, human trafficking/human smuggling and other cases as needed. Responsibilities of the position include working closely with Federal, State and Local law enforcement agencies, felony intake, preparation of cases for grand jury, negotiating pleas, and representation of the State of Texas in pretrial proceedings, as well as in criminal bench trials and jury trials in District Court. All applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law by the State of Texas and have a minimum of five (5) years prosecutorial experience with felony cases and extensive trial experience. Salary commensurate with experience. Resumes will be accepted through the close of business October 19, 2015. Offer condolences


Arthur DeLeon Laijas, 62, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, of La Marque, Texas, passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, in Texas City. Arthur was born July 7, 1951, in Floresville to Joe and Carlotta (DeLeon) Laijas.

Arthur was a hardworking man and an excellent provider for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 39 years, Gloria (Pesina) Laijas; children Edward Laijas and wife Veronica, Arthur Laijas Jr., April Laijas, and Jessica Laijas; grandchildren Ariadne Laijas, Bryelle Logan, Amelie Laijas, Tristan Treviño, and Riley Treviño; brothers Joe Laijas Jr. and Jesse Laijas; and sister Amanda Laijas.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 6-8 p.m., with a rosary vigil at 7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale.

A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stockdale, officiated by the Rev. Dennis Jarzombek.

Interment followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Stockdale.
