Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Pilar S. Martinez, 66, of Levelland, Texas, entered eternal rest on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013. He was born Jan. 23, 1947, in Floresville to Jose M. and Crisanta S. Martinez.

He was an avid collector. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and bowling. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always the life of the party. Pilar was generous toward others and always gave with a big heart. He loved to travel and made friends everywhere he went.

Pilar was preceded in death by his parents; sister JoAnn Montoya; brother Arnulfo; niece Bianca Martinez; and his half-brothers, Antonio, Cruz, Damacio, and Gonzalo.

He is survived by his three daughters, Sharon E. Cousins and husband Russell of Jacksonville, Ark., Nancy L. Esquivel and husband Mario of Dallas, and Janis Hurtado and husband Robert of Irving; his 11 grandchildren, Marcus, Andrew, Austin, and Allana Cousins, Christy Ibarra, Amethyst Martinez-Esquivel and Marcelina Esquivel, and Madison, Zane, Truman, and Finn Hurtado; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Joe S. Jr. and wife Lorene of Denver, Colo., Alex S. and wife Linda of San Antonio, and Arthur S. of Levelland; five sisters, Simona Rodriguez and husband Florentino of Alice, Celia Martinez of Floresville, Tina Ochoa and husband Al of Portland, Alice Foster and husband Daniel of San Antonio, and Lenora Briseno and husband Mike of La Vernia; two half-brothers, Gregorio and wife Lucia of Mesa, Ariz., and Eduardo and wife Pauline of Lubbock; and his former wives, Erlinda Martinez and Norma Mendoza, who took great care of him in the final stages of his life.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. in the Templo Emanuel Assembly of God Church in Poth.
