Thomas Edmond Gorzell, a lifelong resident of Kosciusko, Texas, entered eternal rest Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at 4:08 p.m. in his residence in Kosciusko at the age of 84 years, 8 months, and 22 days. Thomas was born Jan. 6, 1929, in Kosciusko, the son of Joseph and Lucy Dziuk Gorzell.

Thomas attended Kosciusko schools and was a mechanic by trade and loved farming. Thomas married Pelagia Urbanczyk on Feb. 28, 1949, in Panna Maria. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Society and was a faithful picnic volunteer.

The family would life to thank Odyssey Hospice for the loving care given to their husband and father.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son and daughter-in-law, Leroy James and Geraldine (Guenther) Gorzell.

Thomas is survived by his wife of more than 64 years, Pelagia Urbanczyk Gorzell of Kosciusko; his children, Celeste Gorzell Savage and husband Jerry of Poth, Terry Gorzell and wife Verna of Poth, Evelyn Gorzell Pruski and husband Patrick of Kosciusko, Laurie Gorzell Lipscomb and husband John of Poth, and Joyce Gorzell Labus and husband Howard of Poth; his 14 grandchildren; his five great-grandchildren; his brother, Henry Gorzell and wife Emily of Kosciusko; and his sisters-in-law, Irene Gorzell of Kosciusko and Lucy Matheaus of Poth.

Visitation was held on Monday, Sept. 30, at 5 p.m., with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the church, officiated by the Rev. Stan Oleksy.

Interment followed in St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Kosciusko.

Serving as pallbearers were Troy Savage, Justin Pruski, Cole Gorzell, Clark Lipscomb, Nathan Labus, and Cameron Labus.

Memorial donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 13431 Blanco Road, San Antonio, TX 78216, or to a charity of one’s choice.
