Stockdale City Secretary Thania Santos presents documents for signature to newly sworn-in Stockdale Deputy Marshal David Rice during the Oct. 1 city council meeting.
Stockdale’s David Rice has been appointed by the Stockdale City Council Oct. 1 to serve as Stockdale’s deputy city marshal.
He will serve under Stockdale City Marshal James “Jim” Stewart, who was appointed in July 2011. Rice will help enforce municipal cases and code compliance. Stockdale City Secretary Thania Santos administered the oath of office to Rice during the Oct. 1 council meeting. According to Stockdale City Manager Banks Akin, Rice has successfully completed his Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education certification.
Currently, Rice serves as a director with the Stockdale Emergency Medical Services and was appointed Stockdale fire marshal last January.
In other matters, Akin addressed the appointment of directors serving on the Stockdale Economic Development Corp. Akin advised that all seven positions need to be reappointed before Jan. 1, 2014. Due to some resignations, Akin said directors will need to be appointed to one- or two-year terms. All current directors have expressed interest in continuing on the board. Directors are Frank Bain Jr., Gary West, Polly Stryker, L.H. West, Ginger Coleman, Roger Armstrong, and J.C. Hrubetz.
The council also will seek a representative to serve on the Floresville Electric Light & Power System board, since the term of Stockdale’s trustee, Vernon Lambeck, will expire Dec. 31. In a formal letter to the city of Stockdale, Lambeck asked the council to find a candidate to replace him. Lambeck has served as Stockdale’s representative since February 2011.
In other matters, the council:
•Voted to close Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth streets from Main Street to Person Street for the Christmas Downtown activities set for Dec. 7.
•Approved the purchase of a 1998 GMC dump truck for $6,290.
•Asked the city manager to research a sign ordinance.
In attendance: Mayor Ray Wolff; councilmen Sherry D. Lambeck, Scott Soden, Saul Bosquez, Becky Adams, and Roger Armstrong; City Manager Banks Akin, City Secretary Thania Santos, Stockdale Fire Chief Edwin Baker, Stockdale Fire Marshal David Rice, and Stockdale Chamber of Commerce Director Betty Soto.
