The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office is seeking candidates for the position of an Administrative Assistant. Duties will include but not limited to: answering incoming calls and greeting visitors, prepare discovery for defense bar as required, providing administrative and clerical support to the ADAs and District Attorney, assist in general office work and perform related duties as follows: Operate a multi-line telephone switchboard, proficient use of software applications and computer equipment, scanning and compiling files for eDiscovery, filing and creating court files, generating reports as required. Applicants must have at least five (5) years of administrative assistant experience, strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) ability to multi-task, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. The Greater La Vernia Chamber of Commerce met on Oct. 2 in the Mesquite Bean Restaurant with a record number of members in attendance to hear Sandy Sullivan, C.F.E. and senior vice president, fraud management division of Frost Bank, who shared important suggestions for avoiding fraud.

The Spotlight Member of the Month was Roeber Insurance Agency, which was represented by agent Kristina Calton-Allen. Upcoming events were announced:

•Wednesday, Oct. 16 -- Ribbon-cutting ceremony for Koepp Chevrolet’s anniversary and remodeling, 5:30-7:30 p.m., 13221 U.S. 87 W.;

•Friday, Oct. 25 -- GLVCC Fish Fry and Mixer, 4-7 p.m. at La Vernia City Park, tickets $10 available at La Vernia News office or at the door.

The next meeting of the GLVCC is Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Witte’s Bar-B-Que restaurant at noon.
