Derek Tyler Moczygemba is honored to serve as prince-elect to Kaitlin Labus in the 69th annual Peanut Festival Court of Broadway Lights. Derek is the 17-year-old son of Tammy and Jimmy Moczygemba. He is the grandson of Chester Moczygemba of San Antonio and the late Mary Moczygemba and the late Alvin and Lois Gabrysch, formerly of San Antonio. He is the younger brother of Cody, who is currently attending Texas A&M University in College Station as a senior.

Derek is currently a senior at Floresville High School and is a member of the varsity cross country, basketball, and track teams. During the summer, Derek participated on a traveling basketball team where this past July, his team won the championship at the West Coast AAU Nationals in Las Vegas, Nev. Derek is also a member of the National Honor Society and Link Crew, and is in his second year of the FHS Culinary Arts program.

Outside of school, Derek is an active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Elmendorf and frequently volunteers as an usher and helps out at the annual church festival, where he helps his dad cook the food.

Upon graduation, Derek plans to pursue a degree in kinesiology at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and hopes to pursue a career as an athletic sports trainer or physical therapist.

Derek and his parents would like to thank their seamstress, Kathy Sawers, for her outstanding work on his sash.

Derek would especially like to thank Kaitlin Labus for choosing him as her prince-elect for the 2014 Floresville Peanut Festival and is looking forward to the upcoming year.
