Michelle D. Tackitt is proud to serve as president of the 69th annual Floresville Peanut Festival and Court of Broadway Lights.

Michelle has served on the Peanut Festival board for more than 15 years. In 1988, she was elected first runner-up princess in the 44th annual Peanut Festival’s Court of Splendid Wildflowers. The Tackitt family has a long-standing involvement with the Peanut Festival Association, including several past presidents, and other family members have served in the Royal Court. Michelle has held every office with the association and is currently serving her third term as president.

Michelle is an alumnus of Texas Lutheran University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. She is a member of various organizations, including the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, serving as an active member of the Ambassador Committee. In addition, Michelle was elected in 2006 and serves as county chair of the Wilson County Democratic Party.

Michelle is a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She is the daughter of Sheriff Joe D. and Sandra Tackitt and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe D. Tackitt Sr. and the late Theodore E. and Eileen Short. She has one sister, Amy Tackitt Maytum, brother-in-law Mark, and nephews Logan and Carter. Michelle was married to the late Berry L. “Buddy” Pope.

Michelle calls Floresville her home and is proud of her family’s strong peanut farming heritage. At one time, the Tackitt family was among the largest peanut producers in the Wilson County area.

Michelle would like to extend her appreciation to the Floresville Peanut Festival Association for giving her the honor to serve as president and is looking forward to a successful festival. She personally invites everyone to come and enjoy all the activities, fun, and excitement of an old Floresville tradition, which takes place the second weekend in October in downtown Floresville.
