It is a great honor for Marvin Earl and Lauren (Talley) Mills to be able to serve as parade marshals for the 2013 Floresville Peanut Festival. Marvin and Lauren were both born and raised in Floresville and are familiar with many aspects of the Floresville Peanut Festival.

Marvin has spent his life farming and ranching in Floresville. He was involved in peanut farming with his father, Robert Mills, for many years. Marvin’s mother, Novelle Reagan Mills, was an active member of the Floresville Musical Club for more than 50 years.

Lauren’s parents were Alvin Dennis and Mary Talley. Marvin and Lauren are the proud grandparents of six beautiful grandchildren.

Marvin served in Vietnam in the U.S. Army as a gunner in the artillery, Chargin Charlie unit, 1966-67. He served as secretary and director of the Wilson County Peanut Growers Association from 1987-2006. Marvin also serves as president of the Marcelina Cemetery Association.

The couple are members of the Independent Cattlemen’s Association and the Texas Farm Bureau.

Lauren served as a director of the Peanut Festival board for the Wilson County Peanut Growers Association for several years and was on the Wilson County Peanut Growers Association for several years and the association’s scholarship board from 1995-2006. She also serves as secretary-treasurer of the Marcelina Cemetery Association. Lauren is a retired legal secretary and was historian for the San Antonio Legal Secretaries Association in 1987-88.

The family was involved in the Peanut Festival for many years. Lauren served as train bearer in the 1953 Court of Jeweled Splendor; Lauren’s sister, Patricia (Talley) Featherstone, was a princess in the 1962 Court of Autumn Beauty; daughter Holly (Mills) Gardner was a page in the 1979 Court of Agricultural Frontier; son Kyle Mills was crown bearer in the 1983 Court of Majestic Melodies; and son Bryan Mills represented the Wilson County Peanut Growers Association in the 1988 Court of Enchanted Peanut Harvest.

Marvin and Lauren would like to thank President Michelle Tackitt for giving them this opportunity to be a part of the rich history of Floresville and Wilson County. They invite all to come enjoy all of the festivities at the 69th Floresville Peanut Festival, Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 10-12, in downtown Floresville.
