Did you know Beverli Baumann Helmke? The former Floresville Elementary School teacher will be honored during a special event Monday, Oct. 28, recognizing her impact on the community.

NOW Ministries will make a video tribute to honor Helmke to play during a fashion show to benefit cancer sufferers in the Floresville area. Dorie Perez, founder of NOW Ministries, invites members of the community to help by sending photos or videos of Helmke to include in the tribute. The deadline for these submissions is Monday, Oct. 21. Pictures can feature Helmke in the classroom, at church, or in the community.

The nonprofit hosts an annual fashion show, “For the Cause,” in memory of a community member who lost their battle with cancer. This year’s honoree was chosen for her encouragement and inspiration of those in the community, especially her students, Perez said.

Perez said Helmke always had a positive outlook on life and shared a smile with everyone. She passed away May 24, 2010.
