Event: Flash Flood Watch

Effective: 12:11 PM CDT on 10/15/2013
Expires: 07:00 AM CDT on 10/16/2013

Alert: ...Flash flood watch in effect for all of South Central Texas from 5 p.m. this afternoon, through 7 a.m. Wednesday morning... .A slow moving cold front will interact with deep tropical moisture across South Central Texas to produce locally heavy rainfall. The threat for heavy rainfall and flash flooding will initially be across the Edwards Plateau and Hill Country late this afternoon into early this evening. The threat will shift southward overnight. Due to previous rains, any additional rainfall will result in rapid runoff.

Widespread 1- to 2-inch amounts are expected with localized higher amounts of 3 to 5 inches possible.. Flash flood watch remains in effect from 5 p.m. CDT this afternoon through Wednesday morning. The flash flood watch continues for the following counties in South Central Texas:

Atascosa, Bandera, Bastrop, Bexar, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Comal, Dewitt, Dimmit, Edwards, Fayette, Frio, Gillespie, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Hays, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Kinney, Lavaca, Lee, Llano, Maverick, Medina, Real, Travis, Uvalde, Val Verde, Williamson, Wilson, and Zavala.

From 5 p.m. CDT this afternoon through Wednesday morning, widespread 1- to 2-inch amounts are expected, with localized higher amounts of 3 to 5 inches possible. Flash flooding of low water crossings and other low-lying and normally flood-prone areas is likely due to heavy rain. Streams and rivers may also see rapid rises.

Instructions: A flash flood watch means flash flooding is possible in or near the watch area. If you are in the watch area, plan now for what you will do if flash flooding develops. Stay informed and be ready to act if you see flooding or if a flash flood warning is issued.

Target Area: Atascosa; Bandera; Bastrop; Bexar; Blanco; Burnet; Caldwell; Comal; Dewitt; Dimmit; Edwards; Fayette; Frio; Gillespie; Gonzales; Guadalupe; Hays; Karnes; Kendall; Kerr; Kinney; Lavaca; Lee; Llano; Maverick; Medina; Real; Travis; Uvalde; Val Verde; Williamson; Wilson; Zavala
