Offer condolences


Leona B. Janysek, 89, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, in her residence in Panna Maria, Texas. She was born Oct. 15, 1923, in Runge to Dobroslov D.H. and Petronila Vyvlecka Zezula.

She attended Texas A&I in Kingsville where she earned her teaching certificate, which she used teaching for many years in the Ruckman School in Karnes County. Leona was also a longtime CCD teacher, a homemaker, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Nixon and the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Panna Maria. She was in the Altar Society, a member of the Panna Maria Historical Society, and a member of the KJZT. She and Vincent Janysek Sr. were married in Runge on Oct. 30, 1950.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vincent Janysek Sr.; daughter Mary Elliff; sisters Edith Yanta and Genevieve Yeary; and brother Jerry Zezula.

She is survived by her children, Richard Janysek and wife Cindy of Ecleto, Patrick Janysek and wife Carleen of Gillett, Steve Janysek and wife Lisa of Sinton, Michael Janysek and wife Velma of Karnes City, Vincent Janysek Jr. and wife Mary Jane of Karnes City, Susan Pauler and husband Harvey of Warrenton, Kathy Kopecki and husband Milton of Karnes City, Clare Smith and husband Kevin of Portland, and Lucy Matejek and husband Richard of Yorktown; her son-in-law, Fred Elliff; sisters Helen Bryan, Mary Weiss, and Hedy Prokop; 26 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Monday, Oct. 14, at 5 p.m. with a rosary service at 7 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Panna Maria.

A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the church. Interment followed in the Panna Maria Cemetery in Panna Maria.

Serving as pallbearers were Richard Janysek Jr., Daniel Elliff, Adam Janysek, Kyle Cordes, Blaise Kopecki, James Janysek, Eric Smith, Andrew Matejek, and Vincent Janysek III.
