Greetings from the Stockdale Independent School District (ISD).

First of all, I would like to let everyone know about the Stockdale High School Facebook page. It has just been launched and it will allow the students and parents to keep abreast of the goings on at the high school. If you have any questions about it, please contact Principal Sandy Lynn.

Congratulations goes out to Jessica Puente, who competed at the state fair in public speaking. Jessica brought home the gold as a state champ in this event, as well as a $5,000 scholarship! Once again, congratulations.

Thanks to all the parents who attended the parent-teacher conferences last week. It was a huge success.

Red Ribbon Week is on tap for the week of Monday, Oct. 28, through Friday, Nov. 1. Please be on the lookout for the exciting daily themes that the campuses will be doing throughout this week.

Stockdale ISD and the community are gearing up for Homecoming activities that will take place on Friday, Oct. 25.

The ACE After-school Program is in full swing providing before- and after-school tutorials and homework assistance for the elementary students. This program also provides fun, enriching activities to help our students learn and be successful!

We have the Anti-bullying Kickoff at the pep rally Friday, Oct. 18. Box tops are due the same day.

Homecoming activities are on Oct. 25. The elementary has a Shoebox Float contest on Thursday, Oct. 24.

We’ll have a Veterans Day Program Monday, Nov. 11, and celebrate Texas Recycles Day Friday, Nov. 15.

Stockdale Elementary School is in the stages of planning its annual Winter Wonderland. It is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 13. Please contact the elementary school campus for additional information.

Teachers of the month for September are

•Elementary school -- Jill Skaggs

•Junior high school -- Jenna Cotter

•High school -- Gina Deason.

Congratulations to these fine teachers.

See ya next month and remember, “It’s great to be a BRAHMA!!”

Paul Darilek is the superintendent of the Stockdale ISD.
