‘Seasonal Artists’ kicks off Musical Club’s first meeting
Officers and board members of the Floresville Musical Club are all smiles at the first meeting of the year.
The Floresville Musical Club met for its first meeting of the year Oct. 8 in the First Lutheran Church.
Our first meeting brought out many members and their guests. President Peggy Tipton called the ladies to order and welcomed everyone back. Peggy introduced and thanked the officers for the year: First Vice President Lydia Martinez, Second Vice President Sandy Vogel, Third Vice President Bonna Reed, Treasurer Carol Richardson, Reporter/Photographer Cecilia Moczygemba, and Historian Olga Alvarez.
Peggy asked the committee chairmen to stand: Courtesy, Betty Dismuke; Nominating, LaJuana Newnam-Leus; and Scholarship, Amy Carter.
The hostesses for the month were Ginny Byrd, Olga Alvarez, Amy Carter, Janice Pruitt, Alice Lackness, Shelley Ross, Carol Richardson, Sally Marrs, Diana Garcia, Barbara Brissette, Dorothy Perez, Mary Ann Avilez, and Buel Massey.
She also introduced guests and asked for anniversaries and birthdays from the members.
Lydia Martinez introduced the program for the month, “Seasonal Artists.” Local artist Dottie Bowden then introduced her students, Yvonne Harrison, Maria Herrera, and Shirley Lyssy. Dottie Bowden told a little about her painting experiences and then the student artists gave a presentation about themselves and showed the ladies their paintings. Some of the artists had been painting for a while and others only a short time. Their displays were beautiful.
The hostesses served chicken salad on lettuce leaves, cheese squares, crackers, and three varieties of Rice Krispie treats: brown sugar, cranberry, and chocolate. Coffee or flavored tea was offered to drink.
The tables were set with white tablecloths with green table toppers. The ladies brought their art supplies and set them on each table for the guests to look at. The serving table had a large canvas with the bowl of fruit used as the model. The tables were a big hit with the guests. The artists did a painting, as a thank you, to be given away at the meeting. The painting was won by a guest, Trisha Tipton, daughter-in-law of Peggy Tipton.
Sarah Gella, our Peanut Festival representative to the board, was at the Goober Games, as last week was the week of Peanut Festival. The Musical Club hosted the rehearsal dinner for the Peanut Festival Court at the home of Nancy Traeger on Wednesday before the coronation on Thursday.
