First Lutheran Church in Floresville is seeking a Director of Youth and Family Ministry, part-time 20 hours/week. Qualifications: Have active worship life and ongoing growth in faith, understanding of Lutheran-Christian tradition, ability to work with both adults and youth, basic computer and organizational skills. Director will disciple both parents and youth grades 1-12, establish appropriate caring relationships with youth, seek opportunities to connect with youth in their environment on their schedule, organize parents into groups for children's ministry work, arrange at least 3 annual local events or trips for Sr. high youth, recruit and encourage youth and adults to take positions of shared leadership and involvement, create and implement means for regular communication with parents and youth, manage youth and family ministry calendar in collaboration with staff, parents, and youth. The 25th annual Nixon-Smiley Livestock Show’s Wild Hog Cook-off and Ranch Rodeo is set for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-19, in the Nixon-Smiley Livestock Show Arena, located east of Nixon off U.S. 87.

Dance to the music of “Conjunto Cats” Friday night from 8 p.m. to midnight. Margarita and salsa contests will also be held.

Saturday’s events begin with a 5K hog run/walk, with proceeds to benefit the Nixon-Smiley scholarship. For more information, contact M. Zepeda at 830-203-9821.

Fun for the children also begins at 8 a.m. with mutton bustin’, pig scramble, stick horse races, goat slappin’, and hog tyin’.

Turn-in time for the wild hog cook-off begins at 9 a.m. and continues through noon. Categories include Dutch oven dessert, pork ribs and other, brisket, beans, and chicken. For more information, contact Amber Davis at 830-660-6960.

A live auction will be held at noon.

The fun continues with the slick and sleezy pig races set for 2 p.m.

At 4 p.m., the rough and rowdy ranch rodeo -- a San Antonio Ranch Rodeo qualifying event -- will be held.

To conclude the event, dance to the music of “Hole in the Floor Band” from 9 a.m. until 1 a.m.
