LA VERNIA -- Three patients are being treated in University Hospital in San Antonio, according to Cpl. Javier Reyes of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol, following a crash on F.M. 2772 southeast of here. The crash occurred today at approximately 7:15 a.m.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that Dustin Buckley, 21, of La Vernia, who was driving a Chevrolet HHR, allegedly fell asleep at the wheel. This caused the vehicle to cross the centerline and strike an oncoming Honda CRV driven by 36-year-old Mandy Lambert.

Both Buckley and Lambert, and a 13-year-old boy identified by Reyes as Nathan Lambert, were flown via AirLife helicopter to University Hospital. Information about their conditions was not immediately available.
