FLORESVILLE -- City councilman and businessman Jim Miller has filed a complaint with the Secretary of State’s Office ahead of a special election related to the county’s proposed issue of $8.5 million in certificates of obligation. The county is asking voters to approve issuing the debt, which would be used to fund various capital projects, including restoration and renovation of the Wilson County Courthouse.

Miller alleges that the proposition is “misleading, if not outright fraudulent” to the county’s voters. This, after Wilson County Judge Marvin Quinney, at an Oct. 16 Floresville Chamber of Commerce luncheon, told those in attendance that there likely will not be enough funds left to pay for construction of an animal shelter or for road repairs -- despite these being two of the five items for which the proposition states that the funds would be allocated. This echoed comments by Wilson County Pct. 2 Commissioner Paul Pfeil during the Oct. 14 commissioners court meeting. Video recordings of both events are available at wilsoncountynews.com.

The special election is the purpose of a community forum Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. in the American Legion Hall in Floresville. The event is sponsored by this newspaper and by the Texans for Constitutional Government.

A few years ago quinney was trying to abolish the county library. Why all of the sudden does he want a new library with a cafe?

Alex, you might be right. I wish this issue was easy to understand, but the herd will follow the lead cow.

Well considering that the projected costs for all the projects is $9.2 million (8% increase in less than 6 months) and the bond is for only $8.5M, there is no money for a shelter or roads. In fact, the county will have to come ... More ›

They just want $8.5 million and they will decide later what they can do with it. What they should do is fix the courthouse, which they can do now. Once it is again liveable, some offices can be moved back into the courthouse, ... More ›

again if they wanted it passed they would have submitted separate proposals for each, with a dedicated number,, this shows it was an attempt to obfuscate the facts and deliberately mislead.......vote no and make them start over...

Senior Citizen...NEVER. A bond proposal needs to be concise, and solid estimates given based on supporting facts and documentation. Has that been provided. This is beginning to sound like the Feds more and more. They take ... More ›
