Curtis Charles Lyssy, a longtime resident of Poth, Texas, entered into eternal rest Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at 7:43 a.m. in St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 72 years, 5 months, and 8 days. Curtis was born to Edmond Vincent and Mary Ann Wiatrek Lyssy on May 5, 1941, in Floresville.

After graduation from Poth High School, Curtis proudly served in the U.S. Army from September 1959-61. From there he embarked on a lifelong career as a partner with Lyssy & Eckel in Poth. Curtis married Patricia Lyssy on Jan. 7, 1961, in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko. Upon retirement, Curtis and Pat settled in their home on F.M. 537.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of more than 52 years, Patricia “Pat” Lyssy of Stockdale; his daughters, Debbie Rutland and husband Billy of Stockdale and Sandy Moy and husband Duane of Boerne; his grandchildren, Curtis Rutland, Brooke Rutland, Sean Rutland, Jillian Rutland, Kaitlyn Moy, and Derek Moy; his sister, Darlene Beutnagel and husband Armin Jr. of Floresville; and his brother, Ernie Lyssy and wife Evelyn of Poth.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct.15, at 7 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 8 p.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the church, officiated by the Rev. Dennis Jarzombek.

Entombment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Mausoleum in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were Curtis Rutland, Sean Rutland, Derek Moy, Seth Rutland, Steven Rutland, and Trevor Hensz.

Memorials may be made to a cancer charity of the donor’s choice.
