Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Curtis Charles Lyssy, a longtime resident of Poth, Texas, entered into eternal rest Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at 7:43 a.m. in St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 72 years, 5 months, and 8 days. Curtis was born to Edmond Vincent and Mary Ann Wiatrek Lyssy on May 5, 1941, in Floresville.

After graduation from Poth High School, Curtis proudly served in the U.S. Army from September 1959-61. From there he embarked on a lifelong career as a partner with Lyssy & Eckel in Poth. Curtis married Patricia Lyssy on Jan. 7, 1961, in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko. Upon retirement, Curtis and Pat settled in their home on F.M. 537.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of more than 52 years, Patricia “Pat” Lyssy of Stockdale; his daughters, Debbie Rutland and husband Billy of Stockdale and Sandy Moy and husband Duane of Boerne; his grandchildren, Curtis Rutland, Brooke Rutland, Sean Rutland, Jillian Rutland, Kaitlyn Moy, and Derek Moy; his sister, Darlene Beutnagel and husband Armin Jr. of Floresville; and his brother, Ernie Lyssy and wife Evelyn of Poth.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct.15, at 7 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 8 p.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the church, officiated by the Rev. Dennis Jarzombek.

Entombment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Mausoleum in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were Curtis Rutland, Sean Rutland, Derek Moy, Seth Rutland, Steven Rutland, and Trevor Hensz.

Memorials may be made to a cancer charity of the donor’s choice.
